Life Lately | September

Did September only last four days??

After purposefully spending most weekends in August out  of my home doing things, nothing much happened in September. Aside from Labor Day weekend, which I spend hiking four different parks in the DC area, the first few weeks were filled with the same old, same old - baking, reading, running, repeat.

I temporarily relocated to North Carolina during the second half of the month. My apartment building is undergoing major construction work, so I'm at my parents' house for a few weeks and I'll return to DC in mid-October. It never ceases to surprise me how much quieter their suburban neighborhood is than my busy, off-a-main-road apartment, and I'm more than happy to have a change in noise and break in routines.

And speaking of a change in scenery - I've been thinking about leaving DC. In December I'll have been here three years, and while I enjoy it, there are plenty of reasons to leave: the noise, the cost of living, the transitory nature of the people who live here, the traffic, the political culture. Three of my good friends are moving away in the next few months, and I still haven't found a new church after looking for several months. And COVID-19 has made everything feel even more disconnected. I've only seen two DC friends in person since March, and many churches are online-only for the foreseeable future. The ties tethering me to the city are falling away, and the only strong one left is my job - which is remote for the foreseeable future too. I haven't made a decision one way or the other, but I don't see this season of living in DC lasting too much longer.

I don't know where I'll go next, or what the final months of the year will look like. But changes are coming one way or another.
