The Wharf + the National Book Festival

August 31, 2018

Labor Day weekend came upon me suddenly, so my plans, fun as they were, were only loosely plotted by the time Friday rolled around. My office closed at noon, so I grabbed smoothies for lunch with a friend who works in the next building over then headed down to the Wharf for the rest of the afternoon.

On Saturday, I metro-ed downtown for the National Book Festival, an annual event put on by the Library of Congress that features a slew of author panels, book signings, and a huge exhibition floor of vendors and organizations. I went to Roxane Gay's, Meg Wolitzer's, and Celeste Ng's panels, and I passed by Tara Westover giving a televised interview with C-SPAN's Booktube channel. I loved getting the chance to hear from some of my recent favorite authors and learn more about their process and how they view their own work, as well as getting to share the moments with thousands upon thousands of fellow book lovers -- there's nothing quite like 60,000+ people who all love books gathering together under one roof for a day to enjoy all things literary.
