Life Lately | August

August was good in all of the ways July wasn't. At the end of last month I felt frustrated and ungrounded, and now at the end of August, I feel like I've been given a jolt of energy that, once properly directed, could fuel me for weeks. My words have been sparse on this online space but my journal is full of hastily-penned words about life in DC, my new church family, where I want to be in a month, a year, five years. The month of August saw the visit of my sister, dinner dates with new friends, the frantic rush for free tickets for the Shakespeare Theater Company's production of Othello, the many evenings spent on the Mall eating dinners from food trucks, the jogs along the Mount Vernon Trail, the lunch excursions with other interns, and the end of my internship.

At this very moment, I'm back in Raleigh for a (hopefully) brief stretch, sitting in one of my favorite coffee places along Hillsborough Street and taking in a moment of nostalgia before I head back into the flurry of things that need to get done: sort through all of my clothing, take stock of what I need for a new flat, reorganise my bookcases to fit in all of my new purchases from over the summer. I have plans to catch up with old friends every day for the next few days, and I'm reveling in the opportunity to revisit some old favorite haunts before making my way back into the world on my own.
