High School? Been There, Done That.

I'm moving away from entertainment to focus on a few of the more personal events of the past week, which means this might read a bit like a journal entry.

The first exciting thing this week was the Imagine Dragons concert on Wednesday. I went with my marvelous friend Leah and we had an absolute blast. It was the day after I finished my last high school class so it was the perfect way to start off my summer break. Their first opening band, X Ambassadors, wasn't very good, but their second opening band was Paper Route, which I was very excited about (they opened for Paramore during their Final RIOT! tour and I really like their songs that I've heard.

Imagine Dragons was amazing. Despite the fact that we had a 50 minute rain delay, it still made its way into my top five favourite concerts. They had a good setlist and great stage presence, not to mention their stage setup and lights were phenomenal. Dan Reynolds, the lead singer, was really good at engaging the crowd and seemed incredibly humbled that they were playing such a big crowd all the way across the nation from where the band originated. The stage had five drums set up all over the place that Dan would play at random times throughout the night. The craziest moment was during "Radioactive," when about halfway through Dan was lifted into the air by a pulley and then he started playing a drum in the air. It was a superb night.

The second exciting event was prom on Friday night. I went with 13 other girls and we had such a great night. We went over to one girl's house for pictures and some pre-prom snacks and the parents surprised us with a limo ride to prom (which was as fun [and cliché] as it sounds). The theme and DJ were much better than last year and overall this time was more enjoyable. Afterward, I went bowling with a group of about 30 other people, which was entertaining, to say the least. Everyone was pretty bad so it we were all laughing at each other the whole time.

The next day, Saturday, was the most exciting day: high school graduation. Although my last name was grossly mispronounced, it was still one of the proudest moments of my life. I survived high school and made it out with an extra 23 college credits. High school itself was not that bad for me; overall, I had a good experience and discovered a lot about myself and who I am in my current stage of life and yada yada yada. But it was still an immense relief for me to be handed that diploma and walk across the stage and know that I was completely and totally done with those 4 years of school. It was also really exciting for me to graduate with two of my best friends. We met in kindergarten at the private school we attended, we all switched to homeschooling in different grades, and then we all graduated together. We've known each other for 13 years now and we still manage to put up with each other.

My weekend was so crazy and full of exciting events, and it made a bittersweet ending to the first 18 years of my life. But at the same time, I know it's just the beginning of an exciting, grand ride. I'm back to working and traveling for the summer and then I am ready to move out and go to college this fall.
