About

About the blogger...

My name is Kate and I am a twenty-three year old originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, now living and working in Washington D.C. I spend my free time reading multiple books at a time, exploring my local area, and hopping between coffee shops.

About the blog...

I started this blog in 2013 as a space to write out my opinions, write out travelogues, and keep track of important life events, and 5+ years onward the original purpose still stands. A Little Life -- though it's been through numerous name changes -- has always functioned at its core as an online journal, a place to dump words and photos in a curated and hopefully interesting manner. This space has so far seen me through high school graduation, 3.5 years of college, 6 months abroad in Germany, college graduation, a year of internships and job searching, and a move to Washington D.C. for my first real full-time job. My hope is that my personality, travels, and opinions are documented, so that even if I cease writing in the future, I have a way to look back on my teen and twentysomething years.

About the name...

I took the name from Hanya Yanagihara’s brilliant book of the same name, having glanced at my bookshelf in a moment of creative mental block and caught the name on the spine. A Little Life encapsulates how I view my life and what I want it to be:

— An observation on my position in life. I have never been, nor have ever desired to be, some great world changer. I'm happy occupying the corner of life God has granted me, living it out how I best can. A little life — a recognition of my relative insignificance in the grand scheme of things (I realize this sounds a like a morbid, "Dust in the Wind"-style introspection, but it’s not meant to be depressing).

— A challenge to myself to continue to be inspired. A little life — the choice to give life to everything I do rather than drudge through the same old-same old.
