Harpers Ferry

April 13, 2019

I combined two of my goals for April -- get out of D.C. and go hiking -- into one trip a few weekends ago, and spent a day with a friend in Harpers Ferry, WV. I went by myself late last summer, but April is far cooler than early September, and the 20 degree difference in temperature made for a much less exhausting hike.

Un-rushed travel days with loose planning are quickly becoming my favorite. Life in D.C. is so fast, so scheduled at all times that it's easy to get lost in the hustle until you suddenly realize you need to get out of the concrete and the grey and the politics. Going to a national park, driving around the mountains, taking stretching breaks while hiking and making coffee stops on the way home without wondering whether we'll be delayed or behind schedule -- they're all relatively small things, but make such a difference when it's not the norm.
