Life Lately | October

October. The beginning of my favorite six months of the year, and the start of the final season I've yet to experience in D.C. -- autumn. The temperatures took a sudden severe dip with no sign of climbing back up; we went from humid mid-80s every day to cool mid-50s literally overnight, and I haven't been able to hide my excitement over pulling all my coats and sweaters out of the deep recesses of my closet again.

It's been a busy month, and mostly a good one. Two friends came up from Raleigh to see Florence + the Machine with me for an absolutely magical evening. I turned 24, and spent the weekend at home in Raleigh with friends and family. I attended a dear friend's baby shower on Capitol Hill, spent a Saturday morning at The Coupe eating pancakes with my "twin," spoke at a Navy event for work and manned a table at a fundraising event at Fort Belvoir the next week. I went apple-picking for the first time, nearly completed half-marathon training (the race is the first weekend of November), donated five boxes full of belongings I don't need or want anymore, had the apartment to myself for two weeks whilst my roommate was out of town, and hiked in Maryland for an afternoon with a friend. I picked up journaling again, and I may share some notes here, but in the meantime I'm enjoying using an old medium to work out thoughts.

October was a slower, simpler month than the summer ones were, and I'm ready to see what the rest of the year brings.
