Union Market + Harry Styles

June 23, 2018

Though I've lived in the D.C. area for a collective 9 months I've always lived in Virginia, more on the SW side of D.C., so I've never quite made it over to explore anywhere in NE (aside from a few isolated stops at Ebenezer's and Blue Bottle). With a friend moving away from D.C. at the end of June, however, we decided to hit up a few final must-see stops before she left, and Union Market was high on her list.

We were immediately overwhelmed by the number of choices we had for food, so naturally we stopped at quite a few and ate far, far too much. Even with as much as we ate there are still quite a few food stalls left to try, so I know I will be making a few return trips in the future.

We stopped at:
  • B. Doughnut
  • Peregrine Espresso
  • Politics & Prose Bookstore
  • Brief Assembly Pop-Up
  • Salt & Sundry
  • Craft Kombucha
  • Panorama Bakery
  • TaKorean
  • Bon Matcha

June 24, 2018

I mentioned this briefly in my June roundup, but months ago I bought a solo ticket to see Harry Styles on a whim, and the last Sunday in June was the day of the concert. As I was never a One Direction fan and am more of a casual fan of Harry's solo album, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a ticket or have my eardrums blasted by the screams of thousands of teenage girls, so I opted for what I thought was a fairly high rise seat towards the back of the stage that, given the price and the attached map, seemed pretty far from the main action. So it was with great surprise that I walked into the venue and found that my seat was a mere five rows back from the back of the stage with an unobstructed view. I didn't quite feel like I deserved the close space given that I'm not a rabid fan who's dreamed of this moment for years, but regardless, I made the most of the night and danced with the group of girls next to me and pretended to sing along as if I knew what was happening. Teenage girls seeing a favorite member of a boy band have zero chill (in the best way). I feel like teenage girls get a lot of flack for being overdramatic all the time, but honestly, there are no better people to be with when you want to get into the hype at a concert.
