Life Lately | December

As much as November was about traveling, December was about staying local. I've never felt less festive in my life but the days leading up to Christmas were nonetheless filled with holiday activities. A seasonally early snow sent me bundling up whilst visiting a new Raleigh drink spot (the beautifully decorated Hummingbird). My parents and I drove to Durham to see Robert Earl Keen Jr., one of my dad's favorite artists, perform his annual Christmas tour. I attended several Christmas parties: one to make cookies for a local homeless shelter, the second with my small group to indulge in wintry goodies, and the third a gift exchange in which I brought a gift I liked so much I purposefully chose it to bring it back home. I saw Star Wars VIII on opening night and had many mixed thoughts. I made early morning and late afternoon coffee dates with close friends. I indulged in too many hot pepperminty drinks with friends and family, wrapped my cats up in Christmas paper, read a LOT of books, and avoided packing for my upcoming move until the very last moment.

It was a month of small nothings that mean everything, and I'm happy the year ended on such a positive month.
