A Day in New York City

As part of my summer job working with international students, we drove to New York City for a day. I was with the "cultural" group, which meant co-leading half of the kids around some of the famous city sites - Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Staten Island, Wall Street, Greenwich Village, etc - and giving them a quick overview of the city's history. We nearly had our Chipotle lunch stolen by an overeager university student in a violently pink shirt and and the kids chose McDonald's for dinner over all the multicultural options, so the food choices were perhaps a failure. But they were interested in the sites - particularly Times Square and the view over the skyline from the Staten Island Ferry - so the trip was overall a success. Despite the continual panic whenever we crossed crowded streets as a group, we didn't lose anyone, the kids loved the city, and it was an enjoyable, if tiring day.
